Droitwich residents invited to sing themselves slim

RESIDENTS are being encouraged to ditch the gym in favour of singing their way to their ideal weight in 2015.

Rock Choirs in Droitwich, Malvern and Worcester are inviting new members to join their weekly club which, bosses say, offers a different way of getting fit.

A 90-minute session can burn more than 200 calories by getting those taking part to not only exercise their lungs but also spend time on their feet learning dance moves.

Studies have shown singing in a group helps boost immune systems, reduces stress levels, improves mental wellbeing and even helps to enhance concentration, memory and people’s confidence.

There are no auditions and no requirements to read music or have any previous singing experience.

Rock Choir members get to take part in a number of performances throughout the year and many of them help raise money for charity.

Helen Jones, a Rock Choir leader who runs session in Droitwich, Malvern and Worcester, said she knows first-hand how much singing as part of the choir has helped her members.

She added: “It’s amazing to see how much the members benefit from taking part in Rock Choir on a weekly basis.

“I’ve seen confidences grow and friendships develop and it’s awesome to see, especially when they have taken part in a performance.”
