A DROITWICH woman has said she feels powerless after her car tyres were among more than 15 that were slashed during an attack of ‘mindless vandalism’.
Jayne Fuller, whose car was parked in a private car-park on Trent Close, is facing costs of more than £160 after four of her tyres were damaged overnight on Sunday (February 26).
She said the incident had left the car-park looking like a ‘scrapyard’ as residents were forced to abandon their cars until they could sort out tyre repairs.
“More than 15 tyres have been slashed in the car park with what seems to be a serrated knife blade,” Jayne said.
“The effect has been massive, not only the cost, which could be thousands, but it meant many people couldn’t get to work.
“My neighbour’s husband has a heart condition and needs treatment every day, he couldn’t leave the house.
“It is maximum destruction and for what gain? We all just feel powerless”.
Jayne, who is a carer for her mum, said over the past few weeks problems in the area had escalated from minor issues such as noise and litter to criminal damage.
“There has been a continual problem with litter, bottles, people using the hedges as a toilet and my work van also had some unexplained damage to it,” she added.
“It has all escalated into mindless vandalism, you can’t put it down to an accident.
“There might be a lunatic running around with a serrated knife – we feel very scared, something needs to be done.”
Police have confirmed they are investigating criminal damage to a number of cars parked on Trent Close in Droitwich between 10pm on Sunday (February 26) and 1am on Monday (February 27).
Witnesses or anyone with any information on the incidents should call West Mercia Police on 101, quoting incident reference 0056-S-270217, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
