DROITWCH’S MP Sir Peter Luff has paid tribute to his family after he received his knighthood at Windsor Castle.

The Mid Worcestershire MP was joined by his wife Lady Julia Luff and children Oliver and Rosie for the ceremony conducted by HM the Queen.

Sir Peter, who is standing down at the next election after a Parliamentary career spanning 23 years, was honoured by HM the Queen in the New Year’s Honours in January.

He was first elected as MP for Worcester in 1992 and then for the new Mid Worcestershire seat in 1997 after the boundaries were redrawn.

And during his career in the House of Commons, Sir Peter has held a number of high -profile jobs including chairman of the Business Select Committee and as a Defence Minister.

The respected MP told The Standard meeting HM the Queen was a ‘great moment’.

“It was great to have the family there to support me on what was one of the most special moments of my life.” he said.

“I could not have done what I have done without Julia, she has supported me for the past 25 years.

“It’s often said people call my office and speak to Julia when in fact Julia is my office.

“We have shared everything together, she remembers everyone so clearly, her mind is like a filing cabinet when it comes to constituency engagements.

“It meant the world to me my children could be there with me – they both had to take a day off work but I am so glad they did.

Sir Peter was full of praise for HM the Queen for her energy and knowledge during the ceremony and praised Windsor Castle staff for making the day such a memorable occasion.

And the ceremony was made even more special for Sir Peter and his family when they were granted a tour of the historic venue’s Royal Library.

“My grandfather wrote a history of Windsor Castle back in the 1930s and after the ceremony we were invited to take a tour of the library.”
