DROITWICH Spa Mayor Coun Roy Murphy writes for The Standard…..
THE MOST notable event for September was our Salt Fest weekend.
Despite the damp weather the weekend was well-attended and enjoyable.
Trips on the Pamela May were in great demand.
The History Society stall was visited by local people as well as visitors from afar.
The two guided walks were well-attended with visits to sites which emphasised the town’s cultural heritage. Walkers were entertained by a presentation from the Norbury Theatre’s very own John Corbett, alias David Goode.
The previous weekend Stourport held its annual parade and carnival.
On this occasion, too, the weather was unkind though spirits were not dampened.
At Chateau Impney a one day exhibition presented by the Local Government Resource Centre took place.
A wide range of services were on offer including consultancy, financial services, planning and the provision of training services.
The LGRC works in partnership with bodies such as our own County Association for Local Councils.
Two notable events will take place in October.
Firstly on October 16 the town’s Civic Service will be held – that is at 10.30am at St Andrew’s Church.
The service will be a celebration of our Community and Civic life of Droitwich Spa. All are welcome.
Civic Services are a tradition which occurs in all our neighbouring towns and all mayors are invited to attend.
Civic Services were held at Bromsgrove, Redditch and Bewdley.
The next event will take place on October 29 at the Norbury Theatre. The Crown Phoenix Big Band will provide an evening’s entertainment with Glenn Miller music a feature of the programme.
Tickets are already in big demand. this event is in support of the mayor’s charities.
Tickets can be obtained at the Norbury Theatre box office 01905 770154 or on line www.norburytheatre.co.uk
