THE MAYOR of Droitwich officially opened the town’s new-look Witton Post Office.

Coun Bob Brookes, who along with residents had campaigned to get the counter reinstated, cut the ribbon on Saturday (November 8).

He congratulated Post Master Raj Patel on his hard work, saying branch looked great.

“The Post Office is vital to the community in Droitwich Spa and I’m sure the improved environment, and the longer opening hours, will be warmly welcomed by the community.”

The new open-plan counter will be available from 6.30am to 6pm Monday to Friday and between 7.30am and 1.30pm on Saturdays.

It had been temporarily closed since April 2013 before it reopened and will now offer residents a variety of services for 63.5 hours a week, including bill payment, benefits, travel money and home shopping returns, as well as postage.

Mr Patel said: “We are delighted to be welcoming customers to our newly modernised branch.

“We are very pleased to be officially launching it for the community.”

He thanked the mayor and the local community for its support and said he hoped customers would like the new-look branch.

Richard Lynds, Post Office senior stakeholder manager, said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents around Droitwich Spa and I am confident this new modern Post Office will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.”

He added the modernisation was part of a major investment programme – the largest in the organisation’s history.
