THE SANTA Sleigh operated by Droitwich Spa Rotary Club and the town’s Lions Club raised £8,000 for causes associated with children.

Among the organisations to benefit will be the Young Firefighters and Droitwich Cricket Club which runs sessions for youngsters.

The scheme, which has been going for more than 50 years, toured streets across the town between November 16 and December 21.

Lions spokesman Bill Phillips said “We have been delighted by the response to Santa and by the generosity of Droitwich people.”

Edgar Harwood, from the Rotary Club, added: “We would also like to thank people from other organisations who provided extra manpower for the event.”

The Lions and Rotarians have worked together for a number of years now to keep Santa on the road, in what is a much loved tradition in the town.
