Droitwich Lights of Love event raises money for good cause

A MOVING service at Droitwich’s Sacred Heart Church for Spatans to remember their loved ones was attended by more than 240 people.

The poignant Lights of Love event was also aimed at raising funds for St Richard’s Hospice.

After a period of quiet reflection, those who went along were entertained by the Dodderhill School Choir and the St Richard’s Singers, a group made up of hospice staff and volunteers.

The Lights of Love campaign enables residents, in exchange for a donation to the hospice, to dedicate a light in memory of someone close to them who will not be here this Christmas. So far more than 2,500 people have now dedicated a light and over £44,000 has been raised for the charity.

And, following the service, residents stayed to enjoy home-made mince pies in the parish hall.

The event at the Sacred Heart Church was one of a series organised by the hospice and followed a service and candlelit procession at Worcester Cathedral.

St Richard’s Hospice’s senior community fund-raiser Alison Parkes said the charity was very grateful to all those who had made such generous donations and dedicated a light in memory.

“The money raised through these dedications will help St Richard’s continue to offer compassionate care to patients at the end of their lives and support their loved ones through their bereavement.” she added.

Anyone wishing to make a dedication can visit www.strichards.org.uk/lightsoflove or call 01905 763963.

Pledges can be made until December 15.
