Droitwich groups and organisations praised as building work starts on The Cabin community project

THE CHAIR of Droitwich Means Business has praised local groups and organisations which have rallied round to make a key community project a reality.

The Cabin, which is currently under construction on the site of Droitwich Spa High School, will host adult education programmes, community and family information sessions, along with meetings and events staged by the police, social care, special needs groups, the health service and other local organisations.

Matt Nicol said the joint bid by Droitwich Spa Town Council, Droitwich Means Business and Droitwich Spa High School for a share of the £3million Wychavon Community Legacy Grant scheme had resulted in £120,000 in grant funding for the project.

“The money granted was always on the basis that further fund-raising would be required from the community and businesses and school.”

The bid was very quickly supported by King George V CIC Sports Association which kindly donated £5,000, Nicol & Co donated £3,000 and fund-raising by Droitwich Spa High School generated £7,500.

Droitwich Town Council has also offered support through its construction costs contingency fund, accounting for ten per cent of the building costs.

The town has now successfully raised more than £15,000, enabling the project to proceed.

Mr Nicol added: “The Cabin build is well under way, and I recently visited the site to present Paul Buckell with the cheque for £3,000 from the Nicol & Co Community Fund.

“As a former pupil of the High School myself and Chair of Droitwich Means Business it is great to see this project attracting generous local support and progressing so well.”

Once completed, The Cabin will be managed by a six-strong committee, including two representatives from DSHS, DMB and DSTC.

The next phase of fund-raising will be to buy equipment for The Cabin.

Anybody interested in providing support should contact Paul Buckell at the school.

Droitwich Means Business is a local business group co-founded by Matt Nicol made up of a number of key business owners, local employers and business leaders formed with the purpose of putting Droitwich Spa back on the map and creating a connected community.
