Droitwich family to take on walk for Leukaemia charity

A DROITWICH Standard paper girl and her family will be taking part in the Thames Path Challenge and have already raised £4,230 in sponsors.

Lakshya Jain, 15, will be walking 50km, while her 12-year-old sister Maanvi will pound the pavement in a 25km walk in the event next weekend (September 13 and 14).

Spurring on the pair, dad Nilesh and uncle Anand, will also join them – but will go the full distance of 100km.

Lakshya’s eight-year-old sister Karunika, who is not allowed to officially walk because she is too young has also done her part and raised £150 towards the family’s grand total in her own 22km sponsored walk.

The family, which is aiming to make £5,000, have chosen to donate the money to Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research after experiencing first hand the devastating effects of leukaemia when the girls’ nan sadly passed away last year.

Their mum Pinky said: “I’m so proud of them it’s a big challenge because they are so young.

“They are just so keen to raise lots of money for the charity because it’s quite important to them.”
