A COMMUNITY-minded Droitwich man who was made an MBE in The Queen’s New Year Honours List in 2020 has attended The Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.

Richard Campbell, who is 76, was awarded the honour for his services to the community in the West Midlands.

Richard was born in Kidderminster and grew up there before joining the Salvation Army at the age of just eight.

He has worked tirelessly for the community and on fund-raising projects for more than 50 years, raising hundreds of thousands of pounds for local and national charities.

Whenever he moved to a different place, such as Cradley Heath and Malvern, where he lived for three years, he joined the local Salvation Army branch there and continued his good work.

He has lived in Droitwich with wife Pauline for the last seven years.

After a career in construction management, Richard also went onto teach children with special needs and disadvantaged adults, helping some who had been in danger of ending up in custody, turn their lives around.

The garden party he and Pauline attended was hosted by The Duchess of Cambridge and the Earl and Countess of Wessex.

He sad: “The day was very inspiring and a day that Pauline and I will never forget.”
