POST-BRITPOP band Toploader will headline this year’s Friar Fest in Droitwich, it has been revealed.

The event, from 11.30am to 9.30pm on June 4, will also feature Nicki French who represented the UK in Eurovision in 2000, singer-songwriter Sunjay, rockabilly band The Delay Rockets, 1940s pin-up Kitten Von Mew and local covers band The Reflections.

And the Live Room Droitwich, inside the Old Cock Inn, will host an afternoon and evening of live music too from early afternoon until midnight, sponsored by Cundall and Back to Eden.

There will be outside street food vendors including burgers, wood fired pizza and jacket potatoes and the outside bar this year is sponsored by local business Back to Eden and Ambridge Brewery.

The Standard reported last month how organisers Stuart Wilcox and Graham Leonard, who run the Old Cock Inn, said they needed to raise between £8,000 and £10,000 to ensure this year’s Friar Fest festival of culture and music was the biggest and best one yet.

The funds currently stand at £2,500 but the pair are hopeful of a lot more being pledged between now and the big event.

Among the sponsors for this year’s event are Baylis Vauxhall, Fresh Nous, Back to Eden, Tooles Transport, Morrisons, The Norbury Theatre, J Wyton Services and Cundall.

The festival is also in the running for Waitrose’s Community Matters green coin scheme throughout April.
