County Council reveals when Droitwich Library will reopen

Droitwich Editorial 24th Jul, 2020 Updated: 24th Jul, 2020   0

DROITWICH Library will reopen its doors to visitors on August 3.

Worcestershire County Council has already reopened a number of its libraries and the rest will return next month.

As well as Droitwich, Stourport, St John’s, Tenbury and Wythall will re-open a week on Monday.

Pershore Library is also set to re-open later in August, along with Broadway, Upton and Hagley.

Opening hours and opening dates once they are announced for all individual libraries can be found on the council’s dedicated library webpages.

Coun Lucy Hodgson, Cabinet Member for Communities, said: “It’s great news that more of our libraries are able to re-open, and I’d like to thank the local library volunteers who have come forward, and offered their support to help us safely extend the number of libraries that are re-opening in this second phase.

“The community spirit during this pandemic has been something we can all take heart from and be immensely proud of.

“During lockdown, the new Digital Library Hub has had some fantastic success, and seen some amazing figures, proving once again that we really are a county of library users.

“The Digital Library Hub is available 24/7 and I hope that our customers continue to access online library services even as more libraries open their doors.”

From August 3, customers at the reopened libraries will be able to browse shelves and borrow books using self-service kiosks, return books

pre-book public computers and pre-book a desk in the library for study and/or wi-fi access.

Library staff will also be on hand to answer queries and provide information.

Social distancing and hygiene measures will be in place for everyone’s safety.

The number of customers allowed into the library at any one time will be managed – browsing time will be limited to 20 minutes and computers and desks will be cleaned thoroughly after each use.

Normal book reservation services will resume and customers will be able to request books from any open library in Worcestershire.

As a result of this, the Reserve and Collect book service will be unavailable from August 1 2020.

While the number of library services available to customers on site is increasing in line with current social distancing restrictions, libraries are still unavailable for group events and activities, as a meeting place or a place to spend time reading or relaxing.
