Councillor's rallying call for volunteers to help save the Droitwich Spa Civic Society

Droitwich Editorial 17th Jul, 2022   0

A RALLYING call has been issued by Coun Richard Morris for people to come forward and help secure the future of Droitwich Civic Society.

We reported last week that the group, which has been running for almost 50 years, could be set to fold because of a decline in members and a reduction in meetings due to the Covid pandemic.

The organisation was formed in 1974 in response to the rapid development of the town.

Since its inception, it has represented the community by providing comment on how Droitwich Spa could be enhanced and developed to benefit all of its residents.

Coun Morris, in a post on Facebook, has appealed to anyone who can help to come forward to fill a number of roles that need to be filled.

Among them are a committee members, including a chair, treasurer, publicist, secretary and people with planning knowledge/understanding.

Coun Morris said: “The Civic society is consulted on every planning application and its views are sought in the planning process.

“Important applications such as the Raven Hotel site, the Impney Estate, Baxenden site and others all need the Civic society input and with the South Worcestershire Development Plan Review due in the autumn we are in really important times.

“We risk Droitwich not having this further independent input (totally separate from council) and helping to shape the future.

Anyone wanting to find out more should visit droitwichspacivicsociety.co.uk and anyone wanting more information can email Coun Morris at [email protected]

He added: “I can not stress enough how important this is for Droitwich Spa – please share and raise with friends and other local organisations.

“Droitwich needs you!”
