Christmas comes early for the Primrose Hospice as Santa Run generates £7,000

CHRISTMAS came early for the Primrose Hospice last weekend after the Santa Fun Run raised thousands of pounds for the charity.

More than 100 people took part in the virtual event in festive costume, including Santas, elves and even a turkey, around the streets of north east Worcestershire.

In previous years it was held at Redditch’s Arrow Valley Park but Covid restrictions meant that could not happen.

Participants could run or walk 5k or 10k in their own area.

Lucy Perkins, chief elf and fundraiser, said: “It has been an incredible weekend and I have enjoyed spotting all the Santas running around Bromsgrove and Redditch for Primrose.

“I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who put on a Santa suit and took part.

“The reaction from the community was wonderful – there were cheers from passers-by, car horns honking and people shouting encouraging words.

“It has been a difficult year for us all and this definitely raised a smile and some much needed funds for hospice care in our area.”

And with £7,000 already raised she added she had spoken to Santa and everyone who took part was on the nice list for ensuring the Primrose’s services could be accessed free when needed.

Because of its success, the registration has been extended until December 18 so more people can do Santa Runs if they want.
