THE TOWN’S Avoncroft Museum has announced it will hold a grand reopening with the help of Bromsgrove Court Leet.

The event – on May 30 – will celebrate the opening of the buildings for the first time since October and the donors who have rallied around to both help the venue survive the pandemic and after the heartless vandal attack at the start of the month.

Following the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions on entering buildings Avoncroft Museum has invited the Bailiff of Bromsgrove, Joanne Slade, and members of the Bromsgrove Court Leet to formally reopen the site and its buildings.

Throughout the day members of the Bromsgrove Court Leet will be on site to showcase some of the traditions of the Court, including bread weighing and ale tasting.

In bygone years the Officers of the Court would visit local establishments to check the quality of the goods offered for sale – similar to Trading Standards officers today.

Visitors on the day will be able to witness the re-enactment of these inspections carried out by Bailiff, Town Crier Kevin Ward and the officers of the Court.

Nick Sturgess, Deputy Director at Avoncroft said: “It has been a very long winter for us at Avoncroft, but opening our grounds in May and the terrific support we’ve received after a vandal attack has raised our spirits.

“We’re therefore thrilled to finally be in a position where we can reopen our wonderful heritage buildings with the Court Leet and say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported us during this difficult time.”

Bailiff Jo said: “The Court Leet is excited to be supporting the formal reopening and giving thanks for the recent support shown to Avoncroft.

“Bromsgrove is very fortunate to have this wonderful heritage Museum in the town and the Court Leet is honoured to be working in partnership with Avoncroft on this special weekend.

“Members of the Court will bring a colourful and vocal addition to the day where visitors can enjoy the traditions of our town in the perfect setting amongst the superb selection of historic buildings.”

Alongside these events the museums tea rooms will be open and the Bromsgrove Society of Model Engineers will be running their railway.

Avoncroft Museum in Bromsgrove shows midlands life from the 1500s to the present day through a collection of historic buildings.

Tickets will be available online in advance at www.avoncroft.org.uk.
