Appeal for volunteers for the dementia friendly Droitwich Meeting Centre

Droitwich Editorial 31st Jan, 2019   0

AN APPEAL has been launched to find volunteers for the dementia friendly ‘Droitwich Spa Meeting Centre’ which takes place at the town’s rugby club, writes Louise Newton.

The day centre has seen an increase in members and help is needed from midday to 2pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Volunteers will be tasked with serving food and making drinks.

The popular meeting place for people living with dementia and their carers was relaunched in February 2018 following a temporary closure due to a lack of funds.

It offers specialised dementia support that includes discussion groups, support with practical and emotional issues, and one-to-one advice, as well as having a cafe serving hot and cold food.

Natasha Green from Age UK Herefordshire and Worcestershire which runs the centre, said: “Volunteers are incredibly important to our organisation and the communities and individuals they help and support.

“Our Meeting Centre in Droitwich helps people with dementia to adapt to and live well with their diagnosis and we are looking for volunteers from the local area who can offer their time and experience.”

For more information or to register as a volunteer, email [email protected] or call 01905 740950.

Funding is also being sought. To donate, visit  https://www.justgiving.com/campaigns/charity/achw/dsmc
