AN APPEAL has gone out for volunteers to help keep a Droitwich community garden in tip-top condition, writes Mia Batley.
The plea, from housing association Fortis Living, is for the Winslow Avenue Garden which is currently cared for by a number of volunteers who meet up on Thursday mornings from 10am to 12pm.
Volunteers can turn up however at any time and decide what jobs they would like to do.
Volunteer and Fortis Living tenant Liz Pettican said:”Volunteering in the garden has so many benefits, I have made a lot of new friends and eat fresh, organic produce.”
The garden opened in the summer of 2014, and has provided a much needed space for events, such as children and adult garden groups, interaction with local schools, educational workshops and community barbecues.
The Droitwich garden has already achieved an RHS level 5 award, the highest award which can be gained.
Community officer at Fortis Living Chris Colley said: “We would like to encourage volunteers to come forward to help with planting and harvesting throughout the growing season, it doesn’t matter what your gardening experience is.”
