A new chapter begins as Droitwich Mayor opens Witton Middle School's new library

WITTON Middle School invited Mayor of Droitwich Spa Coun William Moy to officially open its new library last Friday.

The children were amazed when they finally got to step foot inside as the library had been kept under wraps since July.

Pupils now have cosy reading spaces to sit in, a study area with computers and new books, all paid for by the school’s fund-raising efforts.

Coun Moy said: “The school was very hospitable and made me and my wife feel extremely welcome.

“I was impressed with the children who helped me open the library because they were so polite and helpful.”

Local artist Rachel Blackwell brightened up the library by painting a mural called ‘The Book Tree’ which is filled with characters from classic and modern children’s fiction.

Headteacher Suzie Bourne said: “Reading opens a window into the world and offers us the opportunity to enrich our lives and others.

“It is our hope this special place will enable children to experience this for themselves, so reading becomes a source of lifelong learning and pleasure for them.”
