A SCHEME which will see £1.1million invested in revamping Droitwich Leisure Centre was given the green light by Wychavon District Council’s Executive Committee on Tuesday (September 2).
The project, jointly funded by the district council and Wychavon Leisure, will see the reception and circulation space given a new modern look, the wet and dry changing areas, toilets and showers improved and there will be an increase in the amount of health and fitness equipment on the first floor.
The spa will also be refurbished and expanded.
The additional gym and spa areas will be created by constructing a mezzanine floor in the squash court next to the one previously converted.
The move was welcomed by Coun Richard Morris, who is the board member for community, leisure and culture.
He said: “I’m very pleased we can jointly fund this investment with Wychavon Leisure.
“These improvements will offer facilities which are as good as those in Evesham and Pershore which is great news for the town.”
Peter Williams, the managing director of Wychavon Leisure, said he was delighted with the outcome.
Work is due to start in April 2015.
