Darbyshire is the hat-trick hero

MATTHEW Darbyshire bagged a hat-trick to help Droitwich claim a 6-1 Summer League victory against Barford Tigers.

Spa started the stronger of the two sides and went ahead in the eighth minute when Darbyshire finished off a fine move with a crisp low finish.

Craig Timmis then had a goal ruled out before debutant keeper George Robertshaw made an excellent save to keep the visitors out.

Droitwich remained on top the longer the half went on and their dominance was rewarded in the 31st minute when Barry Williams scored at the near post.

Barford came out strongly at the start of the second half and pulled one back within a minute when netting from a penalty corner.

They were then awarded a penalty flick when Richard Williams was penalised but after the umpires conferred the decision was changed to a penalty corner.

Spa, who travel to Redditch for their final game of the season, managed to clear and immediately countered down the centre with Darbyshire grabbing his second of the game to restore the two-goal lead.

Williams stretched the lead further before Timmis and Darbyshire completed the scoring.
