TOWN mayor Coun Anne Taft is preparing to embark on a series of visits to highlight the global brands and businesses who are based in Droitwich.
The respected councillor will visit a number of businesses across the town over the next three months to highlight the importance of manufacturing and shine a light on the the companies who have chosen the Spa as their home.
Coun Taft will be taking a look behind the scenes at the businesses and finding out information such as how many people they employ and why they chose to base themselves in Droitwich.
And in this current economic climate, Coun Taft will also discover how products made in Droitwich are in fact shipped to all corners of the globe.
Coun Taft told The Standard she wanted to find out about the various businesses in and surrounding Droitwich Spa.
“I am sure there are a lot of our residents who, like myself, are not familiar with all the companies we have in the town and what they actually do,” she said.
“It will be quite an interesting fact finding project and I am looking forward to meeting the companies involved, to hear their stories and hopefully raise their profile within the town.”
Droitwich MP Peter Luff lent his support to her campaign and congratulated Coun Taft on her project which began on Wednesday (January 16) when she visited local company Greenbox.
“Droitwich has a mass of important, high level and high value manufacturing firms doing very important work and we should be very proud of them,” he said.
“The myth that Britain does not make anything anymore is exposed by towns such as Droitwich. Well done Anne and I wish her all the best for the project and her visits over the coming weeks.”
Over the next three months, The Standard will feature details of Coun Taft’s visits in her own words in the newspaper and online at www.droitwichstandard.co.uk.
