A DROITWICH mum who has raised thousands of pounds for St Richard’s Hospice in memory of her late son has turned to knitting to bring in even more cash for the cause.
Sue Fletcher has knitted 120 colourful scarves and the bestsellers have raised a staggering £700 for the hospice already.
The 63-year-old and her husband John have been passionate fund-raisers for the hospice for a number of years and regularly
open their garden on Showell Road to the public..
The couple also host a family fund-raising walk each year on their son Paul’s birthday as well as other challenges.
Paul was cared for by St Richard’s Hospice during his battle with cancer until his death in December 2010 at the age of 34.
Sue’s love of knitting began when she was sitting with Paul during his care and she said it had become so popular she is often stopped by strangers asking to buy a scarf.
“I do enjoy knitting and love the feeling that it is raising money for St Richard’s,” she said.
“When I do it I can feel Paul looking down at me thinking well done, mum. I knitted while I was with him in the hospice and
there is a connection there.”
Sue sells the scarves for £12 each with all the profits - £6 per scarf - going to St Richard’s. Anyone interested in buying a scarf can call her on 07752 717243.
