Tributes as toddler loses brave battle

THE FUNERAL of a brave Worcestershire toddler who lost his battle against cancer last week was held in Kidderminster yesterday (Thursday ).

Charlie Harris-Beard was remembered at St Mary’s Church on Churchfields before a private service for close family and friends at Kidderminster Crematorium.

Family members asked for no flowers at the service and requested donations be made to either PICU - Birmingham Children’s Hospital or Worcestershire Orchard Services who looked after Charlie at home in his final weeks.

The brave two-year-old, whose mun Fiona is from Droitwich, passed away on Friday (February 8) after spending much of his young life battling acute myeloid leukaemia.

Charlie underwent chemotherapy after he was diagnosed with leukaemia soon after his birth, but it failed to kill the cancer.

Following a world-wide search for a bone marrow donor, Charlie underwent chemotherapy last October but late last year his

parents Fiona and Joey were told his cancer had returned.

The devastating news failed to deter his family and friends who have organised numerous events to raise cash for Cords 4 Life, the charity established by Fiona and Joey to raise awareness of umbilical cord research.

Donations of plastic bottle tops are also being sought to raise cash for the charity, donations can be made at Droitwich Working Mens Club, Perfections Hair Studio in Bromsgrove, The Crown in Wychbold and Morrisons in Droitwich.
