Hi: 16° Lo:3° 7 day

RESIDENTS in three Droitwich streets have been warned to be on their guard after reports a doorstep conman has been operating in the area.
Officers from West Mercia Police are appealing for information after four incidents of a man calling at homes on Worcester Road, Lyttleton Road and Corbett Road and asking people for money.
Police believe he called between 5pm and 7pm and used various stories to obtain the cash, generally about his car breaking down and needing some help with paying for a taxi.
The man is described as being white, over 6ft tall, well-built, aged in his late 30s or early 40s with short, dark and well-kept hair. He was wearing a dark shirt and dark trousers and was well-spoken with a possible slight Black Country accent.
PC Barry Morton from Droitwich Police Station said: "The man is very convincing and persuasive and seems to be targeting the elderly in our community.
"While nothing has been stolen, we have concerns that he could also be checking out properties to see whether they are worth targeting for more serious crimes.
"We would like to hear from anyone who has had this person call at their home, especially if they have handed over money.
"Please can friends, neighbours and family of any elderly people who live in Droitwich please make sure they are aware of our
appeal and that they do not let anyone take advantage of their kindness," he added.
Anyone with information should call West Mercia Police via the non-emergency number 101 quoting the reference number 552S 01/02/13 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
