TWO mature students from Droitwich were rewarded for their hard work when they picked up Academic Achievement scholarships from the University of Worcester.

David Twist, a History student, and Michael Sullivan, an English Literature student, were both awarded the scholarships after gaining top grades in their assignments.

The £1,000 scholarship is awarded to students at the University of Worcester with outstanding academic achievements.

A record 98 students were presented with the honour this year at a ceremony presided over by the university's vice-chancellor, Professor David Green.

Michael, 62, said: "The rigour of the degree programme has stretched me beyond my expectations and to achieve an academic scholarship within this environment is undoubtedly an honour."

David, 50, said: “I am very pleased that I’m not too old to make the podium.”
