High School students in pole position for F1 car

STAFF and students at Droitwich Spa High School will bring the chequered flag down on another successful term when they welcome a McLaren F1 car into school on Monday (December 17).

The gleaming Formula One car will be the guest of honour at one of a series of celebration assemblies being held at the end of term to highlight the achievements of students.

This year’s sixth form Christmas assembly will have the added sparkle of being accompanied by one of the world’s greatest engineering achievements.

McLaren’s Martin Boyes will be handing out certificates to year 12 and 13 students and also explain to all the students the qualities that McLaren are looking for in potential employees in a bid to further motivate the Spa teenagers as they approach their exams.

All students at the Briar Mill school will be handed a pre-Christmas treat though as the gleaming car piloted by Brits Lewis

Hamilton and Jenson Button will be in the school’s main concourse.

Director of Sixth Form, Rob Elmes, said: “This is probably a unique opportunity for our students to be this close to such an iconic piece of engineering.

“Many of us watch Formula One on the television, but to be able to get up this close is a real one off. I am sure the students will be inspired by it,” he added.
