Spa bid to forget cup defeat

DROITWICH Spa will bid to quickly put Saturday’s heavy defeat against Bromsgrove Sporting Reserves behind them when they travel to Coton Green in Midland Combination Division One tomorrow.

Tom Goss’ side suffered a humbling 8-1 defeat at the Victoria Ground in the Worcestershire Junior Cup and will hope to see a dramatic upturn in their fortunes when travelling to face their fellow strugglers tomorrow.

Spa, for whom Matt Colley netted the consolation on Saturday, currently sit two places off the bottom of the table with Coton Green one place below them but level on points.

“The time for talking about what we have or haven’t done and what we need to do better has got to stop,” Goss said.

“We have to start producing on the pitch, it is as simple as that.

“Results are hard for everybody concerned with the club at the moment but we have a duty to the people who come and watch us and to the people who travel everywhere with us and help out, to put things right.

“It is up to us to do something about it and that needs to start on Saturday.

“We did fine for 35 minutes on Saturday but then concede twice before half time to go 4-1 down and just fell apart in the second half.

“But talking about it isn’t going to change anything, performances on the pitch are the only things that are going to do that.

“Our Reserves play Sporting Reserves on Saturday and will probably give them a better game than we did.”

FAIRFIELD Villa were left kicking their heels on Saturday when their Worcestershire Junior Cup trip to Inkberrow was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

The two sides will try again tomorrow with the match scheduled to kick-off at 1.30pm.
