FOOTBALL was the universal language as members of Droitwich Boys and Girls Football Club welcomed their German counterparts recently.
Familiar faces old and new from the picturesque dwelling of Arzbach arrived for the sixth year of exchange visits as part of the agreement between the Droitwich Spa and Bad Ems twinning associations.
The agreement has come a long way since 2007 when a mini-bus of 15 youngsters travelled from Germany, this year there was more than 50.
Following their arrival, the German visitors were treated to a trip to Ragley Hall before the football tournament kicked off.
Teams in three age groups from eight-year-olds to 15-year-olds took to the field for the tournament which featured Germans
playing among English and girls rising to challenge the boys in terms of skill and pace.
And a packed programme of activities came to a thrilling conclusion at Salwarpe Village Hall with a barn dance and the chance to watch Germany in their opening match of Euro 2012 against Portugal.
