AS well as promotion to the Midland Combination Premier Division last week, there was a further honour for Bromsgrove Sporting when director and fixtures secretary David Stephens was awarded the Midland Youth Floodlit League Premier Division South trophy for Secretary of the Year.
David was unfortunately unable to attend the League’s AGM to receive the award as it coincided with that for the Midland Combination but Chairman Colin Lowe made a special trip to the Victoria Ground to present David with his trophy last Thursday.
Facilities director Jon Prescott, who attended the Floodlit League’s meeting on David’s behalf, said afterwards: “This is a deserved award and recognises David’s hard work and dedication to the job during the year.”
On the same Thursday evening, joint managers Keith Draper and Graham Scott along with assistant Ron Mellor, gave a presentation to supporters and took questions.
Keith first summarised the previous season and said he was delighted to get promotion but disappointed to miss out on silverware.
He and Graham then outlined their plans for the forthcoming season which included retaining most of the players from the previous season whilst adding a few new faces, who will be announced shortly.
Training is already underway and preparations are in place for the first friendly of the season on July 14 when Sporting entertain Stourbridge.
Two departures are goalkeeping coach John Slade, who is going to spend more time with his son who is an apprentice at Burton Albion, and midfielder Joe Brookes due to work commitments. Both depart with good wishes from the management team and the board.
THE club are holding a Sportsman’s Evening with former Liverpool star and Kidderminster Harriers manager Jan Molby (right) tonight (Friday, 7.30pm).
Tickets, which include a luxury buffet supper are £20 and available on the door.
