DROITWICH dads at St Peter’s CE First School are being urged to get involved with school activities and raise cash for the cause.

The St Peter’s Lane school has unveiled the ‘Dad’s Challenge’ which aims to get more fathers involved in taking part and organising school activities.

As well as getting dads more involved, the challenge also seeks to raise as much cash as possible to update the school’s IT equipment.

A number of dads will be putting their best foot forward tomorrow (Saturday) for a sponsored walk around the town’s historic canal network.

The undoubted highlight of a packed programme of activities will be at the end of June when a group of nine dads and a teacher will tackle the gruelling ‘Three Peaks Challenge’.

The kind-hearted dads will aim to hit the heights of Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in the Lake District and Snowdon in Wales, all in just 24 hours.

The dad’s are already in training for this huge challenge which will include a night walk across the Malvern Hills and a four to five hour climb and descent from all three peaks.

Many more events are being planned for the coming months with five intrepid dads even signing up to tackle five marathons in just five days in October.

The challenge has been put together by the school’s Parent and Teacher Association (PTA).

PTA member Mike Meredith told The Standard: “We want to get more of the dads involved in school activities because generally its the mums who do the discos and other school events.

“We have had some positive reaction so far and some of the newer members are even tackling the sponsored canal walk this weekend.

“We want to raise much-needed funds to update the school’s IT equipment, new technology develops so quickly and it is such a vital part of educating children today,” he added.

Call the school’s office on 01905 772138 to get involved in the Dad’s Challenge or to make a donation to the cause.
