New clubhouse and pavilion in pipeline

AMBITIOUS plans for a brand new clubhouse and pavilion for two popular Droitwich sports clubs have been unveiled this week.

Droitwich Spa Cricket Club and Droitwich Spa Boys and Girls Football Club have kicked-off plans to replace the ageing pavilion and clubhouse in St Peter’s Fields.

If approved and developed, the new venue would see the current building, which is more than 40 years old, replaced with a new modern clubhouse/pavilion.

The clubs hope the new venue will be open throughout the year and will be available for use by local groups as well as the 175 members of the cricket club.

More than 200 boys and girls also use the site as their football clubhouse each Saturday during the season and the clubs want to hear the views of the local community about their proposals.

They, together with Droitwich (St Peter’s Fields) Sports Association, have already spoken to St Peter’s Church, their members and the trustees of St Peter’s Fields about the project.

Anyone who wishes to take a look at the initial plans is invited to the cricket club next Saturday (July 7) between 2pm and 4pm to find out more.

The clubs will be serving tea and homemade cake for a nominal charge and hope all interested parties will take a look at the proposed plans for the new clubhouse.

The new venue will be able to host many more functions for outside parties and the clubs hope to gain local support for the major venture while at this early stage.

Project leader Mark Chambers thanked everyone who volunteered to get the project off the ground and said: “The small group

of volunteers who are driving the project now have the mammoth task of raising the necessary funds.

“Firstly, to meet the cost of the formal planning stage and later for building the new venue, in today’s economic climate this will by no means be easy,” he added.

Anyone wishing to lend their support to the clubs’ proposals is asked to e-mail Adrian Field on Adrian.field@tiscali.co.uk for more information.
