SPA mayor Coun Anne Taft said Guten Tag to residents of the Droitwich’s German twin town Bad Ems last Friday (June 8) for a four day visit.

And thanks to the generosity of the Birmingham, Worcester and Droitwich Canal Society, Coun Taft was able to make a splash and take her German friends on trip down Droitwich’s canals.

Coun Taft welcomed members of the German Twinning Association to the town who missed the historic re-opening of Droitwich’s canals last Summer.

But once their visit was confirmed, Coun Taft was offered the use of the society’s boat Cecelia and the group set sail from Droitwich to Hanbury.

She said: “Our guests thoroughly enjoyed themselves and I would like to say a big thank you to the Birmingham, Worcester and Droitwich Canal Society for making this trip possible.”

Coun Taft also marked the Diamond Jubilee celebrations by showing her support for one of her chosen charities for the year, Sight Concern Worcestershire.

During her year in office, Coun Taft will support the cause as well as the Friends of Droitwich Lido and kicked off her backing for Sight Concern by attending a tea party at the charity’s base at the Bradbury Centre in Sansome Walk, Worcester.

Along with Worcester MP Robin Walker, Coun Taft attended the party and celebrated 60 years of rule by HM the Queen alongside 65 blind and partially sighted people.

She said: “I want to do all I can during my year in office to tell everyone about the work of Sight Concern.

“The Jubilee tea party gave me the ideal opportunity to meet people who use the charity and to find out more about what services are on offer,” Coun Taft added.
