THE POMP, COLOUR and celebration of the Olympic Games were in evidence in Droitwich on Monday (June 25) as part of World Sports Day.

Droitwich Spa High School hosted the event which saw more than 1,000 pupils from schools across the town compete in a variety of track and field events.

The event marked the start of National School Sports Week which challenged UK schools to deliver an event to mark the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games.

A total of 1,200 Key Stage Two pupils aged between seven and 11-years-old visited the Briar Mill school to take part in the day which also offered other activities for the not so sporty.

Following an opening ceremony involving all the youngsters and their various schools, the day swung into action with a host of races and competitions before the curtain came down with a closing ceremony.

The day was made possible thanks to the Droitwich and Worcester School Sport Partnership and saw 250 young sports leaders from the High School help to deliver the event.
