BROMSGROVE Gymnastic Club’s Sophie Blundell picked up a top award at a prestigious recent Awards evening at the Telford International Centre.

Sophie, who has been mentored by Head Coach and Manager of the club Andrea Paice since the age of 11, was named runner-up in the Young Volunteer of the Year category after developing into a fantastic role model for up and coming leaders in gymnastics.

The awards are run by the National Governing Body of the British Gymnastics and special awards were presented to team members Hannah Whelan and Daniel Purvish of the GB Gymnastics Team that will be representing us in the Olympics London 2012.

Andrea nominated Sophie for the amount of voluntary work she has done in gymnastics and said: “Sophie continues to go the extra mile.

“In 2011 she won Volunteer of the Year at the Bromsgrove District Council Sports Development Awards, in recognition of her help in establishing Bromsgrove Gymnastics Club.

“Sophie was also placed in the top 50 for the Young Leaders Camp in 2010 and returned to the Young Leaders Camp in 2011 as a Graduate Mentor. She was also placed in the top eight in the UK to take part in the British Gymnastics Advisory Panel for Young Volunteers 18-25years.”

Sophie added: “I am naturally delighted to receive this award and to be recognised at a National standard, which is a real honour for both me and Bromsgrove Gymnastics Club.”

Bromsgrove Gymnastics Club meets on Saturday mornings at Meadows First School.
