Green continue to climb the table

BARNT Green continued their climb up the Birmingham League Premier Division table with a three-wicket victory at Knowle and Dorridge on Saturday.

The reigning champions now sit third in the table and will hope to gain further ground on the two sides ahead of them with victory at home to Leamington tomorrow.

Returning skipper Dougie Brown decided to bowl first when the coin came down in his favour and Green were soon celebrating when Andrew Sutton (2-24) bowled David Smith (1).

A number of Knowle and Dorridge’s batsmen made starts but Green kept picking up wickets at just the right time to keep them in check.

Sam Reddish top scored for the hosts with 58 but he was the only batsman to pass 30 as Stephen Bevan (4-36) bowled a fine spell to work his way through the middle order.

Nicholas Powell (2-31) and Richard Wilkinson (2-33) also struck to help restrict the hosts to 164 before they were dismissed in the 50th over.

Barnt Green’s reply mirrored the home side’s innings to a point as everybody reached double figures but only one man went past 30.

Craig Crowe’s 42 provided the foundation for victory which was reached at 167-7 in the 47th over despite the best efforts of Ben Coley (3-43), Stephen Wheeler (1-41), Luke Parker (1-48) and Attiq Chishti (1-7).
