New development in Chawson gets go-ahead

AN AMBITIOUS project to breathe new life into the Chawson area and develop new homes, a shop, a community centre and church was approved by Wychavon councillors last Thursday (April 26).

The scheme, developed by Wychavon District Council and Emmanuel Church, will provide approximately 24 new homes, 13 of which will be affordable apartments.

Five three-bedroom houses and a bungalow will make up the allocation on the site which will also boast a large shop and two-storey community centre.

The proposals will also see Emmanuel Church moved to a new building above the planned new community centre.

The existing site dates back to the 1970s and currently hosts a small shop, a house, and the current community centre and

church

The design of the five three bedroom houses, five two bedroom apartments and the two bedroom bungalow was revised following consultations with residents.

The rear of the properties will now face Camp Furlong and the report to councillors stated the homes will be served by a further 17 parking spaces.

Councillors first debated the plans in July 2010 and the project had been amended since to reflect consultations with local groups and residents.

The application was given the green light despite concerns from Droitwich Spa Town Council who wanted the scheme to be

thrown out because they felt local residents had not been listened to.

Any work will only be permitted to take place on Mondays to Fridays between 8am and 6pm and from 8am to 1pm on a Saturday.
