DROITWICH Air Cadets are celebrating after scooping eight trophies in a recent competition which also saw them named the best squadron in the West Midlands.

The teenagers faced numerous other squadrons from across the West Midlands in a variety of competitions from aircraft recognition through to drill.

Cadet Ben Law was named smartest cadet in West Mercian wing for the second year running, whilst the squadron also came away with the trophy for smartest overall squadron.

The highlight of the day came when the drill team claimed their seventh consecutive victory in the West Mercian Wing drill competition – a feat unparallelled by any other squadron.

As a result, the current national champions have qualified for the regional competition in September where they will continue their quest to defend their title, which they won last November.

Anyone aged between 13 and 18 who is interested in becoming an air cadet is asked to visit www.raf.mod.uk/aircadets or call 07912 341757.
