A DROITWICH student has landed a starring role in a new TV show which starts on children’s channel CBeebies on Monday (March 19).

Joe Chambers, 23, will play First Officer Ditty in The Rhyme Rocket, a series which centres on characters exploring poetry in space.

He was offered the role after taking part in a BBC talent show last year and said he ‘was over the moon’ to get it.

Joe will appear on the show alongside Professor Poet and Commander Rhyme-a-Lot, who all embark on their space travels.

Joe is currently studying for his finals in media presentation at Salford University and, since starting there, he and Professor Poet (Andrew Crawford), have been practising creating material for a younger audience.

Joe said he had always wanted to be involved in children’s TV and it was a dream to be doing it professionally.

“I’d love to continue working in children’s television, it’s something I’ve always wanted to do and so it would be amazing if it continued.”

Joe admitted though, the week they spent filming in the studio was ‘intense’ and said learning his lines in such a short space of time, had been ‘the biggest challenge he had faced’.

But, he added: “Getting to work with so many new and interesting people has been unreal and Commander Rhyme-a-Lot was hilarious - he kept me continually amused in the studio.

“It has been a great experience.”

Joe said his friends had been ‘mildly amused’ by him getting the role.

The Rhyme Rocket is set aboard a space craft fuelled by rhyme.

After blasting off from Planet Rhyme, it embarks on a mission to collect poems from youngsters on Earth.

Children will see First Officer Ditty accompanied by Professor Poet and Commander Rhyme-a-Lot, on his space travels.

There will be 20 of the ten-minute shows broadcast on CBeebies, starting on Monday (March 19) at 3.40pm.
