A DROITWICH SPA High School sixth-former has been honoured for his volunteering work with the chance to carry the Olympic Torch through Fernhill Heath.
Matthew Drury was nominated by his proud mum in recognition of his dedication to various causes both inside and outside of school time.
As well as his studies, Mat devotes some of his spare time to coaching the under six team at Droitwich Spa Football Club on a Saturday and also volunteers for various school sporting events.
The teenager said: "I am excited and nervous about being given the chance to carry the Olympic Flame.
"It is a real honour, especially as I will be carrying it along a route so close to my home.
"It has been difficult to keep quiet about it since I found out and it is great to be able to tell people now," he added.
And depending on the schedule, Mat could hand over or be handed the torch by former Droitwich Spa High School pupil Sam Spencer who will also run a 300 metre leg in the village.
