A STORMING second half performance carried Bromsgrove Sporting to a 5-1 Midland Combination Division One home victory against Archdale 73 on Saturday.

Sporting did not have things all their own way though, particularly in the first quarter of the game when the visitors went close on two occasions.

The first of which came when keeper Tom Savage fumbled an easy catch that he just stopped rolling over the line before a poor clearance from the same player went straight to Archdale's Brad Birch who fired wide of the right hand post.

Sporting gradually came to life and they took the lead in the 27th minute with a superb solo effort from Chris Conway whose shot swerved away from the outstretched arm of Dean Smith in Archdale's goal.

The lead was doubled five minutes into the second half when Conway was afforded too much time eight-yards out and he blasted home.

Leading 2-0, Sporting were now playing with much more confidence, passing the ball well and stretching Archdale's back four.

It was their good passing and moving that led to the third goal when left back Aaron Roberts drove a fine shot into the top of the net from just inside the box.

Archdale pulled one back through Mark Owen who turned well and beat Savage at his near post after substitute Dean Harding-Hall made a quick break down the left.

Savage then tipped another Owen effort over the bar as Archdale pressed but Sporting quickly put the result beyond doubt when Roberts bagged his second.

Conway missed out on a hat-trick when blazing over when well placed but there was still time for Sporting to get a fifth when James Turk grabbed his first goal for the club.

THE first team have arranged a friendly at home against Chelmsley Town on Saturday (12pm) which will be followed by the Reserves entertaining Knowle at 3pm. One admission will cover both games, costing £2 and £1 for concessions.
