Spa face key spell - Goode

By Jamie Arrowsmith 15/12 Updated: 19/12 17:22

DROITWICH Spa entertain Hampton in Midland Combination Division One tomorrow at the start of a run of games that will go a long way to determining their end of season position according to boss Richard Goode.

With games against Archdale 73, Northfield and Fairfield Villa to follow over the festive period, Goode believes it is crucial his side put points on the board now before their league position becomes too bleak.

Spa, following Saturday’s 1-1 home draw with FC Glades Sporting, sit 16th in the table, two places off the bottom, but crucially they have played more games than all of the sides around them.

“This is a massive part of the season for us now, we have to make these games count,” Goode said.

“No disrespect to any of the sides coming up in the next few games, but these are the sorts of games we have to look to be getting points from if we are not going to leave ourselves vulnerable as the season draws to a close.

“The fact we have played more games than everybody else means we will have a few blank Saturday’s where teams around us will have the opportunity to pick up points so we must put some on the board now.”

“We cannot be content and happy with our current situation so it is essential everybody gives that little bit more commitment in order to get us moving in the right direction.”

Goode watched his side draw against FC Glades Sporting for the second time in recent weeks on Saturday and was once again left bemoaning a goal conceded in the ten minutes before half time.

“It happened yet again, that is five weeks in a row,” Goode said.

“We started well and were playing with a good tempo and went ahead through a goal of the season contender from Mike Seeley but concentration levels seem to dip at the wrong time and we get punished.

“The game became stretched in the second half and both sides had chances to win it but I wanted three points before we started and was disappointed to only get one.”

Goode has promoted Dave Pheasant from Reserve Team manager to be his assistant with John Reid taking control of the Reserves.
