Droitwich charity celebrates grant

By Rob George 13/01 Updated: 20/01 11:19

YOUNG people were handed a boost after a Droitwich-based charity was handed almost £8,000 from the National Lottery's good cause fund.

Worcestershire Council for Voluntary Youth Services Limited was one of 57 projects in the West Midlands to be handed a share of £472,858 from the Big Lottery Fund’s Awards for All programme.

From its Droitwich base, the charity seeks to work with young people across the county to help them achieve success.

And the donation of £7,689 will allow the group to provide training and accredited youth work courses to volunteer youth leaders.

Through the courses, the group hopes to increase the volunteers' confidence and knowledge of their work, which will help with their future career development.

Other Wychavon-based charities include Harvington Playing Field Association who were handed £2,000 to fund improvements on the village's playing field.

John Taylor, Big Lottery Fund Head of Region for the West Midlands, said: "I am delighted to see so many worthy causes

across the West Midlands receiving funding today.

"Awards for All offers small grants which make a big difference to the lives of those most in need.

"Voluntary and community groups, schools, health organisations and parish and town councils can all apply," he added.
