Shine a light for a loved one
22 November. Updated: 22 November 11:32
LIGHTS of love will be shining across Droitwich on Wednesday (November 30) when the annual St Richard’s Hospice Christmas tree lights are switched on.
The special Lights of Love evening begins at 6pm in a new bigger venue this year as Droitwich Spa Methodist Church on Worcester Road hosts the annual showcase.
Pupils from Dodderhill School will sing and hospice chaplain Rev David Knight will lead the service which will be followed with refreshments.
Readers are invited to dedicate a light for love, whether in memory of a loved one, celebration of a birth or for someone who will be absent this Christmas but is still in their thoughts.
For a donation of your choice, a light will shine on the St Richard’s Hospice Christmas tree throughout December.
Senior community fund-raiser Alison Parkes said: "Lights of Love event in Droitwich is so popular we have decided to
move to a bigger venue which also has parking close by.
"So far this year 2,200 names have already been dedicated across Worcestershire raising £20,000 in donations for our care.
"These services are deeply appreciated by the people who come along - many of whom are the families and friends of people who are, or who have been, cared for by St Richard's," she added.
The names of loved ones will be displayed on the boards surrounding the tree in St Andrew's Spire and in a Book of Thanksgiving placed in Worcester Cathedral, The Priory in Malvern and Droitwich Library throughout December
Anyone who wishes to make a donation can fill in the form available from: www.strichards.org.uk/lightsoflove or by calling 01905 763963.
