DROITWICH residents are being urged to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and buy a poppy ahead of Remembrance Sunday this weekend (November 13).

This year’s appeal was launched on October 29 and means Spa residents can show their support for soldiers past and present and remember those who gave their lives.

2011 is The Royal British Legion's 90th anniversary and year is doubly special as it is a once-in-a-lifetime Remembrance Day today (Friday).

At 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month in 2011 the date will read 11-11-11-11 and will see residents stop to remember those who were willing to lay down their lives for their country.

And on Sunday (November 13) Droitwich will fall silent at 11am for the annual day of remembrance which will feature a number of events.

Starting at 10.30am, the service will see Droitwich mayor Coun Mike Barratt lay the first wreath after the two minute silence at 11am and he will be followed by representatives from a number of local organisations.

Prior to this will be a parade featuring the Droitwich British Legion, Air and Army cadets, Boys Brigade, Guides, Scouts,
Young Fire-Fighters and youngsters from many Droitwich youth organisations.

Organiser Net Nevey said: “The people of Droitwich are fantastic in the way they turn out and support our Remembrance
service and I am sure this year will be no different.

“It would be great if those who attend the service this year were to also come back to the British Legion in Salwarpe Road afterwards for refreshments.

“Please join us and show your respect,” she added.
